Since 2021, RET, in partnership with LEAP Turkey, implementing the “Turkish and English Language Learning Program as a Social Cohesion Tool” Project in Ankara, Samsun, Mardin, and Şanlıurfa.
RET has been conducting 2 months English and Turkish language courses to develop language skills while fostering social cohesion between refugees and the host community using distinctive and creative training methods. One of the foreigner participants in Turkish language courses indicated that: “We love living in Turkey and speaking Turkish is essential for us to be able to live here peacefully with the local people. Thanks to RET’s Turkish language courses, I didn’t just develop my language, I am also able to easily have day-to-day interactions with my neighbors and support my children doing their homework”
The teaching methods of the courses were found creative, enjoyable, and attractive by participants: “I participated in RET’s English courses to be able to speak English on a daily basis. I really liked that they use creative drama techniques and that it is full of activities that keep us enjoying and motivated. Besides, the environment was convenient enough to have friends from different countries and cultures. These differences helped us to meet on a common point and be friends.” said one Turkish participant.
360 participants so far have benefited from RET’s Turkish and English courses that are scheduled to last until December 2022.
