The “Multi-sectoral Approach for Fostering Resilience among Non-Syrian Refugee and Vulnerable Host Communities” project in Kayseri, Turkiye, has been targeting the refugee community through Turkish Language Courses to promote social cohesion.
Through the Turkish Language Courses, the participants, mainly from Afghanistan and Iran, have improved their communication skills in the social sphere. “In the neighbourhood where we live, there are mostly refugees from other nationalities, but we are not in touch with them. Daily, I participate in the “Turkish Language Courses” at the Kayseri “My Life Community Centre” and return home. Even though learning a new language is difficult, I am happy to learn new words, more importantly, socialize with the people at the center. If I learn one new word, I see it as an achievement. I can now use my words to buy a “loaf of bread” or say “Goodbye” to people in Turkish. Being able to speak Turkish makes me happy. Shared NC, participant at the center.
The project aims to increase the participants’ Turkish language practices and support them in integrating into the community using multiple teaching approaches in the activities.
