The limited Turkish language proficiency impedes refugees, especially Syrians, from accessing income-generating opportunities, understanding their rights, and accessing much-needed public services such as education and health. This barrier limits refugee women’s access to social life integration. Bridging the language barrier is key to ensuring refugee integration and inclusion, more importantly, accessibility to services and economic opportunities.
RET’s project, “Turkish and English Language Learning Program as a Social Cohesion Tool”, in partnership with LEAP Turkiye, aims to enhance social cohesion by facilitating communication between the host and refugee communities, establishing trust, values sharing, and social integration through language classes.
In 2022, RET has reached 1052 beneficiaries, 455 refugees with Turkish classes and 102 refugees and 495 host community members with English Classes in multiple locations Ankara, Şanlıurfa, Mardin, and Samsun.
