The project “Multi-sectoral Approach for Fostering Resilience among Non-Syrian Refugee and Vulnerable Host Communities” aims at increasing the resilience of beneficiaries in Kayseri. RET has supported refugees through Turkish Language Courses to promote their integration into social life.

Every refugee in Turkiye has the right to receive free access to primary, secondary, and tertiary health care. However, language can be a significant barrier to many patients trying to access and receive quality primary health care. Translation services remain inadequate in most situations. It is crucial for refugees living in Turkiye to speak a basic level of Turkish to be able to communicate when they are attending a pharmacy and or a hospital.

RET organized a new interactive session under the healthcare theme to teach the Turkish language. During the session, the beneficiaries practiced and developed their Turkish language skills using terminology related to health and healthcare. They role-played as physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and patients. They learned the mostly needed Turkish words and sentences to be used in hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies in Turkiye.
