Within the project “Multi-sectoral Approach for Fostering Resilience among non-Syrian Refugee and Vulnerable Host Communities” funded by the UK Embassy in Ankara and implemented by RET International, The Kayseri My Life Community Center graduated its first group of students.
The language barrier is one of the refugees’ biggest obstacles when accessing employment and/or education opportunities. It also plays an essential role in ensuring social cohesion with the host communities. RET established the Turkish Language Training course at Kayseri My Life Community Center, and following two months of long intensive training, 39 candidates have completed the training and graduated.
Forty-four refugees from Afghanistan, Iran, and Syria participated in the course. “Now, finally, I can understand what I read; it makes me so happy. Not understanding the language in the country you are living in is one of the hardest things anyone can face. We didn’t have this opportunity to learn Turkish before. RET has supported us and provided us with this opportunity. Thank you.” shared one of the participants in the language training course.

Another participant emphasized the importance of learning Turkish and its contribution to building relationships and advancing social cohesion. “While I was talking to my neighbor yesterday, she told me that now I speak more fluently and she can understand me much better, and we had a full-length conversation. It made me happy! Thank you.”
