RET’s Livelihood programs take a holistic approach to help women and young people become financially stable and support their families. But these interventions are not limited to just income-generating activities. They include employment placements – which have a proven, successful track records – as well as a sustainable approach that focuses on long-term self-reliance.
In Mardin, Kilis, Şanlıurfa, Kasyeri, and Çorum, RET has supported the establishment of multiple TVET Ateliers for refugee and host community women under the Leap Natural brand. When it was established in 2018, Kilis Natural Doll Making Atelier was the first and only Natural Doll Making Atelier in Turkiye. Through the atelier, women participants learn and refine new techniques of doll making as well as improve existing skills like sewing, embroidery, and knitting.
Ayşe, a recent high school graduate, embarked on a unique journey of personal and professional growth as she worked part-time at Leap Natural’s Natural Doll Making Atelier in Kilis while preparing for university entrance exams. Her dedication and involvement in the atelier’s operations not only enhanced her skills but also left her with fond memories of the experience.
During her 8-month participation at Leap Natural, Ayşe took on significant responsibilities, including organizing production schedules, managing orders, assigning tasks to fellow workers, and ensuring quality control. This hands-on experience not only prepared her for the demands of the business world but also honed her interpersonal and manual skills.
Now, Ayşe is ready to take the next step in her educational journey by pursuing a degree in the Faculty of Education, with the goal of becoming a teacher. She credits her time at Leap Natural for playing a pivotal role in her personal development and readiness for the challenges of her future career.
Reflecting on her experience, Ayşe shared, “Even though I worked at Leap Natural’s Natural Doll Producing Atelier in Kilis for a short time, it brought me many benefits. I have very good memories, of my first step into business life, the increase in my communication skills with people, and the development of my manual skills, all thanks to Leap Natural. Although I attended for a short time while preparing for the exam, it was as if I had been a member of this huge family for years.”
