Shopping at the local district bazaar in Turkiye is still a fundamental part of the culture and everyday economic and social exchanges.
A district bazaar is an excellent place for street shopping. It is possible to find many different products in specific districts and on particular days. Moreover, people who go to the bazaar regularly become acquainted with the vendors and merchants. Bazars allow people to start a conversation and socialize with each other.

RET International has been providing Turkish Language Training courses at #Kayseri “My Life Community Center” through the project “Multi-sectoral Approach for Fostering Resilience among non-Syrian Refugee and Vulnerable Host Communities” funded by the UK Embassy in Ankara. The main objective of the language course is to support non-Syrian girls and women learn Turkish efficiently for faster #integration into the social sphere.

Since these bazaars are one of the main places where people socialize in Turkiye, RET built a symbolic district bazaar in the Turkish Language Class in Kayseri. The theme was “shopping.” During the course, the beneficiaries practiced their Turkish language skills in a setup that imitates the shopping experience in Turkish bazaars. They learned Turkish words and phrases mostly needed while shopping in Turkiye.
- Have a good day
- How much is this?
- This is too expensive.
- I wish you good luck
- Can I buy 1 kg of tomato?
- How much Turkish Lira is half a kg of orange?
